SCIENCE CARTON ON “ONION CELLS CAN ACT AS ARTIFICIAL MUSCLE"
Wen-Pin Shih and his team from National Taiwan University found that the single layered, latticed microstructure of onion epidermal cells after acid treatment became elastic and could simultaneously stretch and bend when an electric field was applied. By modulating the voltage, onion leaf peel can act like artificial muscle. The finding is published in the journal AppliedPhysics Letters on May 5, 2015.
